The quality of the retail offering in the Glasgow area draws tourists and locals alike to seek out designer items or search for bargains in the city centre and out of town.
Two of Glasgow's major shopping streets, Argyle Street and
Buchanan Street are very close to the river, offering a huge amount
of choice within easy walking distance of Glasgow's two main line
train stations.
In Argyle Street a major refurbishment of the St Enoch
Centre has created a massive boost to the area. The
redevelopment of this flagship shopping mall has created a
city-centre destination not to be missed by serious shoppers.
Across the river, the Braehead shopping centre has
seen phenomenal success since it opened in 1999. A shopper's
heaven, the centre was built on a brown-field site close to the
river and has around 100,000 sq m of shopping space and over
100 shops. In its short life it has become one of Scotland's most
popular shopping destinations.
