Wraps come off South Glasgow Hospital

28 Oct 2010

The plans have been unveiled for the New South Glasgow Hospital. If approved by the Scottish Government the build on the project could begin next month.

The wraps have finally come off the design for Glasgow's new £841million triple hospital campus.

The new South Glasgow site will be a "city within a city" and, according to senior doctors, will establish Glasgow as a world leader in surgery and medicine.

Project leaders claim the new South Glasgow hospital, to be built on the south bank of the Clyde beside the existing Southern General, will save the health board around £18m a year in running costs.

The plans will now go forward to the Scottish Government.

If approved, work to build the new adult and children's hospitals will begin next month, with an expected completion date of summer 2015.

The new campus will achieve the "gold standard" of having adult, children's and maternity services on the same site, leading to the eventual closure of the Western and Victoria Infirmaries and Yorkhill hospital.
