Plans for a 99-bedroom guesthouse, beside the Xscape leisure complex in Renfrew, have been given approval.
The new hotel will be managed by and branded as a Travelodge, the UK’s fastest-growing hotel business which first opened in Britain in 1985. The Travelodge, which will create 25 new jobs, will be located adjacent to the £71m Xscape development and the new £7m Riverside Braehead business park. The Travelodge will also serve Glasgow International Airport, and has direct access on to the M8.
Travelodge Braehead will have 99 rooms, a bar café and just over 100 car parking spaces. Room rates will start from £26 per night and 25 jobs will be created when the hotel opens in early 2008. This will be the 4th Travelodge in Glasgow, the 23rd Travelodge in Scotland and will take the company’s employment in Scotland to 375.
The £90 million indoor Xscape centre features a snowslope with real snow. It currently attracts more than three million visitors a year from all over Scotland, the north of England and Northern Ireland.
The new hotel should also appeal to visitors attending events at Braehead Arena and tourists looking for a base with good motorway links.
