Riverside Museum
Location
Greater Govan & Glasgow Harbour, Glasgow Harbour
Description
The new museum will replace the Museum of Transport currently located at the Kelvin Hall. The development will be built on a site where the River Clyde meets Glasgow’s other main river, the Kelvin, and will be adjacent to Glasgow Harbour, a private-sector led mixed-use development extending to 120 acres.
The Riverside Museum project will be funded by Glasgow City Council, with bids being made for external support to a number of agencies including the Heritage Lottery Fund.
The new museum will house collections not normally on display at the Museum of Transport, and for the first time allow the proper interpretation of Glasgow's important maritime history.
The much-acclaimed architect Zaha Hadid has created the design for the Riverside Museum.

Current status
The project started on site in 2007. During summer 2008 foundational work was carried out and massive underground trenches created to house the services for the building. By late September the steel skeleton of the structure was being put in place. The building work is currently on schedule for completion in August 2010 and the new Museum is due to open in Spring 2011.
