The brand new SSE Hydro has successfully reached practical completion, all ready for the grand opening concert with Rod Stewart on 30 September.
The new arena which opens next week was handed over yesterday
evening to SEC Ltd by the project's main contractors, Lend
Lease.
John Sharkey, CEO, SEC Ltd said: "Building our new arena has
been a very complex project, with a big team behind it and not
without its challenges including the fire that broke out on site
during a key stage of the construction. We are delighted with
the efforts of Lend Lease and the entire project team who have
worked to 100 percent capacity to enable us to open the building as
planned with Rod Stewart next Monday.
"Today's news, coupled with us just receiving the occupation
certificate, public entertainment license and full premises
license, means that we are now in great shape for a brilliant
opening week. As the finishing works to the SSE Hydro are
applied, we look forward to revealing Scotland's new home of live
entertainment to everyone very soon."
Gordon Anderson, Executive General Manager said: "It is with
great pleasure that I can today confirm the practical completion of
this project and I'm proud to finally hand over the keys to John.
The Hydro has been both a hugely challenging and incredibly
complex project to deliver.
"That we are standing here at this incredible venue is testament
to the hard work, professionalism and diligence of not only the
Lend Lease team working on the project, but also the entire
workforce and supply chain involved in the project since the first
foundations were constructed in February 2011.
"I'm looking forward to taking my seat at Rod Stewart's opening
concert next Monday evening. I'm positive that the other people
attending on this night will agree The Hydro was worth every ounce
of effort."
