Local people to benefit from South Glasgow Hospital jobs

11 Jan 2011

As building work gets under way at the New South Glasgow Hospital, construction jobs are being made available to people in local communities.

Brookfield Construction, the main contractor on the hospital building project, will be taking an approach to recruitment which will benefit the local community.

One of Brookfield's targets is that 10% of the total workforce on site should be new entrants into the construction industry. They will also be supporting Small and Medium Enterprises and Social Enterprises to get involved in the project.

New South Glasgow Hospital Jobs

A new website has been launched to match people with construction vacancies as the massive build project gets under way. The new site at  www.nsghjob.com is supported by Glasgow South West Regeneration Agency.

Health care jobs for the future

However, construction opportunities are not the only focus of activity. A key objective is to also raise aspirations and communicate future opportunities in healthcare careers to communities in South West Glasgow. This includes:

  • Skills for Work: Health piloted in school curriculum for S3/S4 pupils in South West Glasgow
  • HNC/HND in Healthcare delivered through Cardonald College as part of Education Partnership with NHSGG&C
  • Partnership with NHS recruitment, JobCentre Plus and Skills Development Scotland to provide monthly career/ recruitment workshops in Govan Jobcentre
  • Secondary schools in South West Glasgow undertaking healthcare sciences projects supported by NHSGG&C
  • NHS careers sessions in secondary schools to support proactive marketing of Work Experience Policy to schools in South West Glasgow.

This is a long term approach, supported by a partnership between Glasgow City Council, Glasgow South West Regeneration Agency and Cardonald College to raise awareness of healthcare careers and opportunities for communities in South West Glasgow
