Drive-thru Costa for Lomondgate

01 Aug 2011

Work has started on a drive-thru Costa Coffee at Lomondgate, developing the new services and creating around 20 new jobs.

Construction work has now started on Scotland's first Drive Thru Costa Coffee which will bring around 20 new jobs to the £100m Lomondgate development at Dumbarton being promoted in partnership between Walker Group and Strathleven Regeneration Company.

The new Drive Thru will be handed over to Costa in October by Walker Group and is scheduled to open by the end of 2011.   The new facility will offer seating both indoors and outside for around 100 people and will be open daily from 5.30am to 9.30pm.

Welcoming the jobs boost, which will comprise a mix of full and part-time positions, Gemma Doyle MP said, "The opening of Costa Coffee at Lomondgate is fantastic news and demonstrates the growing confidence of investors in the development.

"I am delighted that Lomondgate will become the site of Scotland's first drive-through coffee shop, creating another destination at the development, encouraging more people to our area and helping to boost the local economy."

Her sentiment was shared by Jackie Baillie MSP who added, "I am absolutely delighted that development on Scotland's first drive through coffee shop has commenced at Lomondgate. This is another welcome investment in the Lomondgate project and will be a much needed boost to our local economy.
"The Lomondgate regeneration currently taking place is expected to boost our local economy by £450 million and will create 1400 new jobs and it is excellent news that another phase of the development is now underway."

Costa Coffee is part of the Whitbread group of companies which have already invested in Lomondgate with the opening of the Premier Inn Hotel and Malt and Myre pub/restaurant in January this year.  Trading has already exceeded expectations at both outlets and attracting such a new leisure concept to the area further enhances Lomondgate Services as a destination in its own right.
Councillor Ronnie McColl, Leader of West Dunbartonshire Council,  commented: "Regenerating West Dunbartonshire as a place to live, work and visit is one of this Council's key priorities and as a result I'm delighted with the progress being made at the Lomondgate site.

"While other areas of Scotland have seen investment grind to a halt, the creative vision of those at the Strathleven Regeneration Company and the commitment of Walker Group have ensured that activity at Lomondgate remains impressively high. The development of a Costa Coffee drive-through is most welcome as it brings a well-established brand to the area that will complement our strong offering to visitors from across Scotland and beyond, as well as provide much needed local employment."
