Transport Maps - Getting about Guides

This lesson/project idea will develop a knowledge and understanding of topological maps (e.g.: London Underground) and apply this knowledge in a real life local context. Young people will work in teams to design local maps of walk/cycleways, road and rail routes e.g.: local areas such as Clydebank, Renfrew, Yoker, Erskine, or 'Clydeside south', 'Clydeside north' which will be used for local purposes as appropriate - communities, libraries etc.

Broad Outcomes of learning
• Subject knowledge gained and enhanced on topological maps
• Enterprising skills improved by increasing self awareness and motivation to learning by working as part of a team, applying learning to developing local area resources, increasing responsibility for learning and raising achievement.
• Develop employability skills communication, planning, organisation, time management, researching, presenting, co-operating, contributing, reporting
• Confidence of working independently from teacher-led lessons demonstrated by making own decisions as part of a team
• Pupils take responsibility for their learning through making decisions about design, presentation and marketing of a product
• Learners have developed enterprising skills identified as 4 capacities of CfE
Relevance to curriculum
• Supports CfE Social Studies
