Using the 'River of learning' slogan as a starting point, this
lesson idea will develop knowledge and understanding about what
makes an effective slogan and advertising campaign, applying this
knowledge in a real life context. The lessons will draw on current
advertising campaigns and analyse the various literary techniques
used to create slogans/effective advertisements. Young people will
form advertising companies and apply the language and visual
techniques discussed to design a leaflet to promote local health
and sports facilities for young people. Possibility of working
alongside local graphic design/printing company to turn the winning
design into a leaflet.
Broad Outcomes of learning
• Subject knowledge enhanced and gained: diet, health, fitness and
local facilities for these. Additionally, knowledge of how language
is used by business/organisations to promote a particular
product/idea
