The quality of the retail offering in the Glasgow area draws tourists and locals alike to seek out designer items or search for bargains in the city centre and out of town.
Two of the major shopping streets, Argyle Street and Buchanan
Street are very close to the river, offering a huge amount of
choice within easy walking distance of Glasgow's two main line
train stations.
In Argyle Street work is underway on a major
refurbishment of the St Enoch Centre. The
redevelopment of this flagship shopping mall is designed to create
a city-centre destination not to be missed by serious
shoppers. A new development at Glasgow
Harbour has a major new shopping complex at the heart of an
extensive regeneration project that includes housing and commercial
development.
Across the river, the Braehead shopping centre has
seen phenomenal success since it opened in 1999. A shopper's
heaven, the centre was built on a brown-field site close to the
river and has around 1 million ft2 of shopping space and
over 100 shops. In just seven years it has become one of Scotland's
most popular shopping destinations.
