Urban housing - Drysdale Street
Location
Renfrew Riverside & Scotstoun, Yoker
Address
Drysdale Street, G14 0LD
Description
The 1930 style Glasgow City Council tenement buildings that framed Drysdale Street were demolished in the mid 1990’s, leaving two large brownfield sites.
Drysdale Street is wedged between Dyke Road to the west, the Glasgow Loch Lomond cycle path and the Glasgow to Dalmuir railway line to the north and Dumbarton Road to the south.
Yoker Housing Association will create a total of 68 new houses for social rent, in two phases, which will include homes for elderly residents and residents with particular housing needs. In addition, the Association has proposals for a community café and local square in Drysdale Street.
Community involvement in this re-development project has been important. Besides community consultation in relation to the building work, the Association has arranged workshops with a number of community groups and local schools to obtain their ideas for the design of the local square and the planned public art project.
