Description

Glasgow City Council, in partnership with nine Merchant City-based visual arts organisations, is leading the development of a major visual arts resource for the city – Trongate 103. The project recognises the importance of the city’s independent visual art sector and aims to provide a secure base for the development of the visual arts in Glasgow, its artists and its audiences.

Trongate 103 will provide a creative hub, acting as a dynamic focus on contemporary visual art. It will be capable of supporting world-class artists and enabling them to sustain and develop their careers. At the same time, the building will offer opportunities to the wider community to participate in the visual arts in an environment that values the creativity of all people.

The development will house galleries, workshops, artists' studios and production spaces supporting the creation of art in a wide variety of media including printmaking, photography, digital media, film, video, kinetic sculpture, painting and ceramics.

Trongate 103 will offer a wide range of opportunities for professional artists and non-artists alike. It will be a place to see, learn, make, talk about and explore art. It will provide professional creative and skills development for artists; classes and training courses for members of the public; curriculum-based education programmes for schools, and tailored outreach projects for youth and community groups.
