Tourism on the River Clyde - 19thc. to today

Through developing an understanding of history of tourism on Clyde, young people will work in teams to produce models of steamers which were successfully marketed as a trip ‘Doon the Watter’ and  compare this approach by developing an advertising/marketing campaign to promote seaplane flights on the River Clyde to destinations such as Loch Lomond and Oban.

Outcomes of learning

• Subject knowledge gained and enhanced by applying their understanding of topic to the project task
• Gain purposeful understanding by putting learning into real context such as: field trips ‘doon the watter’/commercial seaplane ride, liaison with commercial enterprises offering steamer and seaplane travel
• Enterprising skills enhanced by developing creativity, building confidence and raising achievement through increasing motivation to learning

• Confidence of working independently from teacher-led lessons demonstrated by working in teams to generate models and advertising campaigns. Contacting/liaising with appropriate outside agencies. Developing appropriate research methods
• Pupils take responsibility for their learning through making decisions about use of materials; appropriate agencies to contact; devising strategies to communicate tourism and leisure opportunities in an effective fashion to a wider public
• Pupils have developed enterprising skills identified as 4 capacities of CfE
