Description

The Clyde Promenade project is part of a £2.2 million riverside walkway improvement scheme in the Gorbals area of Glasgow, running from the Albert Bridge at Crown Street to the suspension bridge at McNeill Street.

The current phase of the project involves excavating and rebuilding a section of the walkway at Florence Street tidal weir. New street lighting, fencing and surfacing work will improve the accessibility, safety and appearance of the walkway.

The Wise Group, a regeneration and employment organisation, have both designed and delivered the project to date. As well as contributing to the physical regeneration of the walkway, the scheme also provides employment and training opportunities for unemployed people.

Ten Intermediate Labour Market (ILM) places have been created for local unemployed people. These ILM participants receive a wage and training in construction and related trades, as well as support to help them find and keep a permanent job.

Cost

This phase of the project is worth £208,769.

Current status

The project has recruited 14 ILM participants, of which two have already moved into permanent employment. The project is now complete.
