Description

This project represented the first phase of public realm works, part of a major regeneration programme for Clydebank and its riverside. Work centred on the upgrade of Solidarity Plaza opposite Clydebank Town Hall as well as the transformation of the central reservation along the Glasgow Road corridor in Clydebank.

A key public space, Solidarity Plaza is the centrepiece of the project, which incorporated the use of granite landscaping materials, extensive soft landscaping works, the installation of art and feature lighting, and new signage and street furniture.

The regeneration of the Plaza was carried out following detailed public consultation. Features within the scheme reflect key elements of Clydebank’s heritage. For example, a 10m high granite monolith with red LED markers highlights the town’s shipbuilding links with Poland. The Plaza now provides a flexible space for civic events and is a popular amenity for everyday use.

The project was a winner at the Scottish Design Awards 2006 in the Landscape Project category.
