Description

The Sentinel is on the site of the former Ministry of Defence building between Waterloo Street and Douglas Street and provides 84,000ft² of highly specified office accommodation over the ground and nine floors.

Situated in the heart of Glasgow’s International Financial Services District (IFSD), the open plan accommodation boasts spectacular panoramic views over Glasgow and includes a modern, spacious roof terrace on floor nine.

Renowned for its innovative “UK first” LED light technology, Sentinel has won several design awards. In May 2005, the building received the best commercial project prize at the Scottish Design Awards and the following month, the innovative development received a prestigious international award for architecture from the Royal Institute of British Architects.

Cost

£15 million

Current status

Demolition of the existing stone building started in the beginning of 2003 and the developers moved onto the site in summer 2003. The building was completed in March 2005.

Since then, Sentinel has attracted a number of high profile businesses. In May 2005, the first tenants Aon took 18,000ft² over floors seven, eight and nine. In August, British Steel Pensions Fund Trustees took a 15-year lease over the 9,039ft² sixth floor and ACE INA UK, one of the world’s biggest insurance companies took the remaining 4,962ft² on the seventh floor. More recently, JP Morgan and Morgan Stanley have taken floors five, four and three with Ultralase taking the ground floor, leaving only floor one vacant.
