Scour protection works
Location
Glasgow City Centre
Description
Scour protection works are programmed to be carried out on the upper stretches of the River Clyde from early March until June 2006 at Albert Bridge, the Tidal Weir, Polmadie (Kay’s) Footbridge and Dalmarnock Bridge.
The works are essential to the long-term stability of these structures and were identified during an underwater structural inspection which revealed scouring of the riverbed around their supporting piers. The remedial works will involve the placement of rock armour to reinstate the riverbed to its natural level and provide protection to the bridge supports.
To allow these essential maintenance works to be undertaken in a safe manner, access by river-craft will be restricted to an area approximately 30m upstream of the weir gates. Similarly, safe working areas will be established adjacent to the scoured piers (1 at each location) at the other 3 bridges. Works at these bridges will not affect the passage of river craft.
