Description

Britain’s first seaplane airline provides a service from the river Clyde in the centre of Glasgow to Oban and Tobermory. The service was launched in Summer 2007 and is Europe’s only seaplane service operating from a city centre.

For the previous two years, Loch Lomond Seaplanes Ltd was operating Scotland’s first commercial seaplane service from Loch Lomond, providing a popular facility for the conference, event and city break markets. In 2007 regular flights started from a seaplane terminal close to Glasgow’s Science Centre. Initially flights were scheduled to Oban, but in 2008, regular flights were added to Tobermory

The company is keen to expand its services and believes the creation of a new River Clyde seaplane service adds to the regeneration of the river. In time, it is hoped that regular flights to destinations such as Arran and Bute will be added.

Cost

The introduction and development of the service involved a total investment of £1.5 million with the creation of around 20 jobs.
