Description:
The Digital Media Quarter at Pacific Quay will provide a
physical focus for new media activities in Glasgow and West Central
Scotland through a range of property solutions incorporating
commercial, leisure, residential and retail uses. Although focused
on Pacific Quay, the Digital Media Quarter is expected to have a
positive economic impact on the surrounding area with complementary
projects such as Film City Glasgow and Brand Street's Digital Media
Business Centre already completed.
The current masterplan for the Digital Media Quarter makes
provision for around 32,000m² of mixed use floorspace.
Scottish Enterprise has already undertaken a major package of
civil engineering works to realign the edges of Princes Dock Basin
and a first phase of infrastructure and environmental works was
completed in February 2008 which provided four fully serviced plots
for further development.
The first of those plots was developed in parallel with the
infrastructure works and Medius was completed in 2008. It is
now the new Glasgow headquarters for internet procurement company
BIP Solutions Ltd.
A second development, The Hub at Pacific Quay,
opened its doors for business in February 2009, immediately
attracting new tenants such as the Digital Design Studios and Shed
Media Scotland and is well on the way to establishing a "seriously
creative community" at the DMQ.
Market interest in the Media Quarter has remained positive
during the past year and Scottish Enterprise is currently
progressing discussions with preferred developers for the remaining
plots within the Phase 1 site for a restaurant and a gateway
business development. Planning and design proposals for the second
phase of the Digital Media Quarter will be further developed during
2010-11 which will provide further serviced plots for development
and will link the Media Quarter directly to Film City Glasgow on
its western edge.
