Location:

Greater Govan & Glasgow Harbour

Description:

Shops in the Govan have a vital role to play in ensuring that the area maintains a vibrant and interesting range of economic activity, whether as retail shop windows, café and restaurant frontages or other public services such as banks.

In the past, Govan had numerous examples of excellent traditional shopfronts. These have not survived the intervening years, so this new initiative is designed to support shop owners to create shopfronts that create a much more positive impression of the area.

Grant assistance is now available to shop owners through Govan Cross Townscape Heritage Iniative to upgrade retail frontages and improve security grille design in the Govan Conservation area.

Properties in Water Row and Burleigh Street are the initial priority, otherwise grants are available on a first come first served basis.

Within the Govan Cross THI there is no truly predominant style, so rigid uniformity is not an issue. All schemes must however respect the period, material and design of the building it is located within and beyond that to respect the rhythm and character of the street and the Conservation Area.
