  • WASPS new 'South Block'

Location:

Glasgow City Centre, Merchant City

Description:

Wasps Studios has redeveloped King Street South Block, a 4 storey, 53,000 sq ft Edwardian Building in the heart of the Merchant City into a cultural and creative industries hub.

Wasps agreed an 80 year lease with Glasgow City Council to retain the building and radically upgrade the site. They have increased the number of artists' studios and redevloped the remaining space into office accommodation for cutural and social enterprises and new and established creative industries. Specifically, the building offers:

  • over 38,000 sq ft / 102 workspaces, including:
  • 63 studios for visual artists
  • 29 workspaces for creative industries
  • incubator spaces for start up companies
  • 7 workspaces for social enterprises
  • meeting rooms, social space & roof terrace
  • visible street-front presence with a stunning reception foyer & project space.

Rents start from as little as £300 per month for office space for creative businesses (exclusive of service charge) and charities and social enterprises (inclusive of service charge).

The money raised by renting space to commercial businesses is used by Wasps to reduce the rents for artists and social enterprises to around half the market rate.

Once the building is fully let it will provide space for around 200 people.
