Description:

Forestry Commission Scotland (FCS) is hoping to take ownership of Boden Boo Community Woodland in the first half of 2012.

Initial improvement work has been carried out to repair the boundary wall and improve the paths network.

Further improvements will include the provision of seating and active management of the woodlands to open them up to make them more inviting for people.

A small team of FCS staff will be responsibility for the management and maintenance of the site and will provide a site presence and a personal contact for people who have concerns or ideas for the management of the site.

Forestry Commission Scotland is committed to the Woods In and Around
Town
(WIAT) programme, which  aims to;

  • Bring neglected woodland into management
  • Create new woodlands
  • Support people to use and enjoy their local woods

Current status:

Before taking ownership they have carried out some site improvements in agreement with Renfrewshire Council.

In 2011 Forestry Commission Scotland carried out substantial repairs to the historic boundary wall. In 2012 works to build a path network in the existing woodland to
allow people easier access to this fantastic woodland are in process and
will be finished for spring 2012. Necessary tree safety operations are
being undertaken as the path network is being built to limit the
disturbance to public access.

When FCS have taken ownership of Boden Boo a Management Plan will be
produced for the site which will involve consultation with local people
to inform how the site is managed in to the future.
