Planning consent has been granted for a new 180 bed Premier Inn and Thyme Restaurant, designed by Lawrence McPherson Associates, for Whitbread PLC at Pacific Quay in Glasgow.
Located on the South side of the river Clyde, the new 6 storey
hotel will be located next to the BBC Scotland building and across
the river from the SECC and the 'Armadillo', in the heart of Creative Clyde.
The Premier Inn at Pacific
Quay has been designed to maintain the strong building edge to
the river and to provide a transition between the two very
different heights of the neighbouring buildings. The Thyme
restaurant will face out onto the river, Clyde with an
external dining area adjacent to the river creating a range of
dining experiences for guests and to reinforce the active frontage
of the building.
The design provides for a new public space which links Bells
Bridge to Pacific Quay, formalising a key pedestrian link from the
SECC to the site and beyond.
Plans have also been submitted for the construction of a new 120
bed hotel by De Vere Village Hotels and Scottish Enterprise as part
of moves to redevelop the former Glasgow Garden Festival
site. Designed by Curious as part of a wider 7N masterplan,
subsequently adopted by BDP, the scheme will consist of a five
storey bedroom block fronting Pacific Drive and an adjoining two
storey leisure structure to the rear, including a 20m pool.
