A new luxury hotel is to open in Waterloo Street. The 94 bedroom Intercontinental Hotel Group project is expected to create 50 jobs.

The world's biggest hotel chain is set to turn an old power plant into a luxurious new hotel.

The Intercontinental Hotel Group (IHG) hope to create 50 jobs when they open a 94-bedroom boutique hotel next summer in the former ScottishPower headquarters on Waterloo Street.

The opening reflects the growing successes of the city's hotels, after it was revealed more rooms were filled in the city than any other in Scotland.

Statistics from accountants PKF show that more rooms were occupied in Glasgow than any Scottish city during September, at 88.9% compared to 88.2% for Edinburgh and 76.9% for Aberdeen.

A spokesman for IHG said: "Hotel Indigo is InterContinental Hotels Group's upscale boutique brand, delivering the charm of a boutique hotel with the consistency and reliability of a big hotel company.

"Each hotel is distinctly different and reflects its local neighbourhood with local murals and images and a vibrant colour palette."
