North canal bank project
Location

Address
North Canal Bank, Argyll Rd, Clydebank Town Centre, Clydebank
Description
The North canal bank project has transformed the canal side environment on the north bank of the Forth and Clyde Canal in Clydebank town centre, between Kilbowie Road and Argyll Road. The project creates a more user friendly space in which to enjoy the canal side setting, introduce new activities and improve connectivity with the shopping centre and car parking area. Extensive community feedback on this project helped shape the design process.
The project was funded by Urban II European Funding, Scottish Government Cities Growth fund, Clydebank Rebuilt, British Waterways and CIS.
The newly transformed public realm features heated granite seats - “bankies benches” - and a “memory line” to communicate the history of the area, designed by local school children.
The project has been nominated for the Scottish Design Awards 2009 in the masterplan category.
