Enterprise Area status for Creative Clyde

17 Jan 2012

Creative Clyde will become part of one of four new Enterprise Areas, created by the Scottish Government.

Creative Clyde is one of 14 sites which make up four new Enterprise Areas across Scotland.

The four new Enterprise Areas focus on those industries with the greatest potential to create new employment opportunities, stimulate private investment and boost economic growth.

Creative Clyde has been named as part of an Enterprise Area which also incorporates Prestwick International Aerospace Park and encompasses both manufacturing and other growth sector opportunities.

All of the other three Enterprise Areas are sector specific and include Renewable Energy Enterprise Areas in the East and North as well as a Life Sciences Enterprise Area (with sites across Scotland).

Welcoming the announcement, Linda McPherson, Director of Creative Industries at Scottish Enterprise said, "This is fantastic news for the future development of the Creative Clyde project, launched last year as an integral part of our efforts to grow the already significant contribution the creative industries make to the Glasgow and Scottish economy.

"We introduced an exciting new masterplan for developing Scottish Enterprise's site at Pacific Quay seven months ago and the news today that this site is included within the new enterprise area is very welcome.  We look forward to working with our partners in Glasgow City Council to further enhance the development proposition for creative industry organisations within Creative Clyde."

The Creative Clyde project seeks to build on Glasgow's growing status as a hub for the creative industries, delivering new jobs and economic growth for the city. Key industries include film, TV and radio, advertising, publishing and design, web and digital media, animation, software and games development.

An exciting new masterplan has recently been developed for Scottish Enterprise's site at Pacific Quay.  It provides for modern, loose fit, flexible space to accommodate a range of different uses including retail, leisure and residential, as well as core offices and workspace for creatively minded businesses.

With the locations now established the Scottish Government will go on to agree the specific incentives that will be offered to encourage private investment at each of the sites in the Enterprise Areas.
