Expansion plans are on the cards as Capital Shopping Centre moves to buy King George V West dock.
A disused section of Glasgow's last working dock is on the verge
of being sold to a major shopping European shopping centre owner in
a £4.7 million deal.
Capital Shopping Centres (CSC), the company behind the Braehead
shopping complex on the outskirts of Glasgow is seeking to buy the
King George V West, once part of the main port for both the city
and the west of Scotland, which sits close to the mall and retail
park.
A spokesman for Clydeport, which manages docks along the river,
said operations at the King George V dock would not be affected by
the deal. He said: "The area sold has not been a full part of the
working dock for some time, with the main operations taking place
only in KGV East."
CSC said the waterfront site, which includes a dock, quayside and
general yard, offered "significant opportunities" for development
of the shopping centre and leisure activities at Braehead.
