Bovis Lend Lease to build SECC National Arena

23 Dec 2010

Bovis Lend Lease is to build The Scottish National Arena, set to be ranked one of the top five arenas in the world.

Considered one of the UK's leading project management and construction companies, Bovis Lend Lease, who previously worked on the SECC and the Clyde Auditorium, fought off stiff competition during a formal tender process.

John Sharkey, SECC CEO comments: "It is our commitment to work with the very best in the business to achieve our vision for the Scottish National Arena as one of world's leading venues.  Bovis Lend Lease has a proven track record of delivering our requirements on schedule and with their experience and capabilities, they will help us make our vision a reality."

The project will create employment opportunities for up to 3000 people over the course of the construction which is planned to commence in February 2011 and will be completed by 2013.  The arena will be used as a key venue in the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Expected to have in excess of one million visitors a year, the 12,000 seat Scottish National Arena will be a key venue for the 2014 Commonwealth Games and will further cement Glasgow's position as a premiere destination for large scale international events.

Designed by Foster + Partners and situated on the SECC campus alongside the River Clyde in Glasgow, the dramatic venue will become one of the most sophisticated venues in Europe to provide specialised conference, exhibition, and concert facilities on one site.
