The Arlington Business Parks Partnership fund (ABPP), which is
managed by international property group Goodman, has secured a
contemporary four-star standard conference hotel operator Hotel la
Tour at Glasgow Central Quay, on Glasgow's Waterfront.
It is the first development to be announced since Hotel la Tour
was launched last year by conference business entrepreneurs Norman
Bellone and Jane Schofield, formerly of Hayley Conference
Centres. Hotel la Tour is understood to be looking at up to
12 potential locations across the UK.
A detailed planning application has been submitted to Glasgow
City Council for a 189-bedroom four-star hotel, which will be known
for its stylish design, modern, contemporary interiors and its
unique high profile Clyde-side location, offering 9th floor
executive suites with balconies overlooking the river. The hotel
will be highly visible from Glasgow's Kingston Bridge and will have
easy access to the M8 Motorway through the City
The planned hotel will have a 142-cover restaurant, conferencing
and gym facilities. It will also offer 107 car-parking spaces
underneath the building, and its development includes improvements
to public infrastructure, with a new junction built onto the A814
Anderston Quay road and public realm improvements into Central
Quay.
This is the first of Hotel la Tour's concept hotels to be
announced in the UK, and is a demonstration of the growing demand
for high-quality beds located within easy reach of Glasgow City
Centre. The hotel is located at the heart of Glasgow's
International Financial Services District (IFSD) now home to
international financial services companies such as BNP Paribas,
Barclays Stockbrokers and JP Morgan. It will be located within a
5-minute walk from the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre
(SECC), and a 10-minute walk into Glasgow's main commercial and
shopping centre,
James Raven, Goodman's development director for UK Business
Parks commented: "This is a great announcement for Central Quay and
for Glasgow. We have entered into an agreement with Hotel la
Tour, who are rolling out this exciting new hotel concept across
the UK at the moment, to deliver their inaugural hotel in the
city. This tells you how well Glasgow is performing as a
city, and emphasises the strength of the Central Quay
location. We look forward to working closely with Hotel la
Tour and with the City Council to ensure the successful development
of a world-class hotel and conference facility that will also
further advance the regeneration of this piece of Clyde-side real
estate."
Goodman was advised by DTZ, while Hotel la Tour was represented
by Jones Lang Lasalle.
