Description:

The South Glasgow Hospital Campus development involves the expansion of one hospital and the construction of two new hospitals to create one of the largest hospital complexes in Europe.

The first phase was the expansion and upgrading of the existing maternity hospital.

This is being followed by the new regional children's hospital which will replace Yorkhill and the largest component, the new South Glasgow Hospital with 1100 beds. Existing facilities such as the spinal injuries unit will be retained on the site as well.

The university teaching hospital will provide a wide range of city-wide, regional and national services including the West of Scotland mobility and rehabilitation centre and a national and regional accident and trauma centre.

The existing renowned Neurosciences and Spinal Injuries Units will stay on site providing specialist head, brain and spinal injury care for patients from all over the West of Scotland and beyond. In addition, the modern Langlands Building, which provides specialist rehabilitation services for older people will be retained along with the associated Physical Disability Rehabilitation Unit.

This investment in the new hospitals and maternity unit, together with the new laboratory facility will transform the experience of healthcare for patients and staff alike. It will see Glasgow become the home to the largest, most advanced single NHS development in the United Kingdom.
