In all, around 25,000 new homes will be created by the
regeneration, with a wide variety of styles and a commitment
to integrate new developments with existing communities.
Around 8,500 new homes have already been created since the launch
of the project.
A series of modern, stylish apartments has sprung up along the
Broomielaw, while at Glasgow Harbour hundreds of new homes
are being developed to create a new riverside community. Six
residential phases will result in a total 2,500 homes. The first of
these, Glasgow Harbour phase 1,
involved three different housebuilders and is now
complete.
The developers for Glasgow Harbour phase 2
are Dandara, a company
new to Scotland with wide experience of urban regeneration
projects. Almost 500 homes have been completed so far in Phase
2.
Near SECC, Skyline apartments was
completed in 2008, providing more accommodation close to the
developing financial services sector.
In the city centre, there are ambitious plans for new
housing at the heart of Glasgow's riverfront. Developments
such as Lancefield Quay and River Heights
are already proving popular with new city dwellers.
Further down the Clyde, at Braehead in Renfrew, new housing
developments are well underway at Ferry
Village and projects in Clydebank are also creating attractive
new homes by the waterfront.
As work continues, existing communities such as Govan, Old
Kilpatrick and Erskine will be linked to the new residential areas,
with a series of bridges, footpaths and an improved transport
network.
