There are now new opportunities to create and develop important wildlife habitats within the Green Network.
A rich variety of wetland habitats exist in the area, including
the River Clyde, the Forth and Clyde canal and Black Cart
River.
The Green Network Strategy seeks to enhance existing habitats,
improve existing habitat corridors and provide new habitat
corridors where appropriate.
There are major opportunities for the enhancement of habitats,
particularly along the western section of the Clyde, as well as
projects which will enhance habitats at a more local level,
throughout the corridor.
Plans for the Green Network must also take account of Flood
management issues. The existing flood management strategy has
highlighted the importance of flood risk along the River Clyde. The
area is subject to tidal and/or fluvial flooding. It is recognised
that Green Infrastructure has an important role to play in not only
managing surface water run-off but also flood water storage.
