Linthouse community garden
Location
Greater Govan & Glasgow Harbour, Linthouse
Description
The development of a community garden at Skipness Drive was first identified by Linthouse Housing Association who approached the Cspace project at GSWRA (Glasgow South West Regeneration Agency) to facilitate the project on their behalf. The project, which is located on an area of grassland near Govan Road was made possible by the hard work of local residents and the pupils of both Elderpark Primary and St. Constantine’s Primary. The community garden has been developed as a dedicated space for those that live in the surrounding area.
Consultation and site visits have taken place with Elderpark and St Constantine’s Primaries and there are ongoing discussions with staff regarding their use of the facility. It is hoped that each class will use the garden for various aspects of the curriculum including environmental, art and drama studies. The two schools will also come together for the planting of the garden. Other local community groups have also been consulted and encouraged to be involved in the project. These include the Preshal Trust, the Hope Project and Social Services Berryknowes Centre and Greater Govan Environment Trust.
The project seeks to involve as many members or groups within the community a possible to ensure optimum use of the garden.
