Creative Clyde is now providing a focus for creative and digital
companies in the Clyde Waterfront area. Visit the Creative Clyde
website for more about this thriving community.
Key locations for creative industries along the Clyde includ
Pacific Quay and the Merchant City.
Pacific Quay is home to BBC Scotland and
Scottish Media Group, Scotland's two largest broadcasters. To
support the growth of industries linked to these key broadcasters a
series of developments are under way:
- A series of specialist buildings for media businesses are
arranged around the historic Canting Basin of Princes Dock.
The first building, Medius, is complete and a
second development, The Hub at Pacific Quay,
was completed in 2009 and is now attacting tenants.
- Govan digital media
centre is designed as an environment where small
businesses can grow. It houses a training centre to
equip local people for careers in digital media.
- Film City Glasgow -
the former Govan Town Hall sits above the media quarter on the edge
of the Pacific Quay site. It has been adapted for a range of
film and sound production uses.
In the Merchant City projects are underway to
support the growth of an emerging arts quarter between Trongate and
the River Clyde. The area has been tranformed as retail units
have been turned into galleries. Two larger projects are now
underway:
- Trongate 103 , a large
warehouse building has already been colonised by artists. It
is now being adapted to ensure sustainability and to create
facilities for public access
- Briggait , the
former fish market, has been used by sculptors for many years. Now
WASPS, a specialist in managed studio space, is working to create
many more studios and other facilities
Other smaller initiatives include the Govan Portal, Glasgow Studio Warehouse,
Yorkhill.
