Description

The HoldYourBreath Project aims to turn the Clyde Tunnel into a ‘pocket of delight’ for its 65,000 daily users.

The project was launched in March 2005, by local resident Kathy Friend, who approached the City Council with a proposal to build a website and ask Glaswegians how they would like the tunnel to look, sound and smell. Over 40,000 people visited the website, and 6,000 filled out design questionnaires.

The design team incorporated the results into their design for the south portal building and approach roads. Glasgow City Council have offered the project some funding from their lighting strategy budget (amount to be confirmed).

HoldYourBreath is also working on regeneration projects with the communities of Linthouse and Whiteinch, which have tunnel exits in their area. A series of art, science and music workshops have been held in local schools and youth groups, along with exhibitions of their work. The soundscape created in these workshops will be launched with the new lighting designs in 2006/7.

Current status

The project work is in progress.
