Financial services

In the past five years around 13,000 jobs have been created in Glasgow's International Financial Services District (IFSD). These jobs are in every area of financial services, including contact centres, investment management, insurance and pensions. 

The IFSD is located between the traditional business centre of Glasgow and the River Clyde, adjacent to Glasgow’s Central Station. 

The financial services industry is one of Scotland’s key industries. It employs over 108,000 people in Scotland; about 5% of all Scottish jobs. Most of the jobs are concentrated in the central belt of Scotland with Edinburgh and Glasgow together accounting for 85% of the jobs in the sector. Scotland is the UK’s second largest financial services centre.

• Job prospects for school leavers in the financial services industry are good. Nearly a third of employers have recruited a school leaver in the last 2 to 3 years
• The job prospects for graduates in financial services are also very good
• Most jobs are full time – the proportion of part-time workers is less than in other sectors
• There are slightly more female than male employees (58%)
