Description

The former Govan town hall on Govan Road is to be refurbished to create a base for facility and production companies in the film and media industries.

It will be converted into a business centre to meet the growing demand from film companies for good quality, low cost accommodation. The grade 'B' listed building will be converted in three stages and is scheduled for completion in 2008.

It will be leased from Glasgow City Council by Film City Glasgow who will manage the centre.

The project will bring a historical building back into viable use.  It is located near Pacific Quay, which is set to become Scotland’s premier digital media campus.

£3.5 million

Current status

Phase 1, the creation of office, reception, and conference accommodation is complete. Work on phase 2 commenced in March 2005, to provide a specialised post production film facility including a Dolby Premier sound production studio, the first approved sound production facility in Scotland. Phase 3 will provide accommodation for small companies within the creative media sector.

Timescale

Phase 3 is expected to be complete by 2008.
