Environmental impact

This theme will be developed in the future to include lesson/project ideas. In the meantime we have provided some resources and links for you to use.

Several environmental issues are also considered in the River basin section particularly in the areas of water quality and the risk of flooding. There are also many references to the environment in the work being carried on the Green network.

The environmental impact of Clyde Waterfront has been carefully considered. Some of the factors taken into account are:

  • Reducing the need to travel - people can live, work and use local facilities within a compact area. The development is within an existing urban area and close to a lot of people.
  • Encouraging walking and cycling - high quality routes are being created along and leading to the waterfront.
  • Decontamination of derelict land - all of the sites being developed are brown field land sites which needed to be cleaned up.
  • Recycling - use of recycled materials is incorporated into new construction projects. Much of the demolition materials from the old buildings are reused and recycled as well. There is a large processing facility for making aggregates from demolition rubble at Scotstoun.
