From their learning about communities and services, the learners
will be given a brief to carry out:
'An area of land has become available in four areas
of the Clyde; Glasgow Harbour, Govan, Clydebank and Renfrew. This
land must be kept as an outdoor space and used for community
purposes. Develop an idea for this land.' In small groups learners
will choose an area. They will gather information on the
demographic of the residents and the local area. From this they
will develop a purpose and plan a community space to be used by the
local residents. They will produce a plan, name and concept and
materials advertising the space to the local residents. This will
be pitched to a panel of judges.
Broad Outcomes of learning
• Learners have an understanding of what community
services are need to support homes and residents

come up with a creative plan and pitch. They will have negotiated,
compromised and produced a singular group idea
• Groups will have had the opportunity to develop
communication, planning, problem solving, persuasive and presenting
skills
• Confidence of working independently from
teacher-led lessons will be demonstrated by individual commitment
to a group decision, group idea and group pitch
• Pupils take responsibility for their learning
through making collective decisions on all aspects of the task
including research, community idea, marketing strategy and
pitch
• Learners have developed enterprising skills
