Description

Citycanal Limited has devised exciting proposals for the graving docks: a site of major strategic importance to Glasgow.

The new development, to be known as City Dock, includes a mix of commercial, leisure, retail and residential within the framework of an integrated masterplan.

The plan will reinforce the waterfront as a place to live and work. The south and north banks of the river are to be linked through a series of footbridges connecting the SECC to Pacific Quay. A new bridge spanning the entrance to the canting basin at the foot of the Millennium Tower will tie the graving docks' extensive pedestrian area to the south bank promenade fronting the Science Centre.

The City Dock development will complement the Pacific Quay site, providing a range of services such as bars, restaurants and coffee shops which will support the provision of jobs on the two sites.

The scheme is also expected to bring benefits for the wider area, particularly Govan, in terms of social inclusion and economic development. Citycanal has already held initial briefings with local councillors, and the development team will take advice on the best way forward.
