Billions of pounds of public sector investment have been
earmarked for the Clyde's regeneration over the 20 -
25 years of the Clyde Waterfront project. Clyde
Waterfront's plan focuses on 6 key areas along
the river corridor, from Glasgow Green to Dumbarton and
already substantial change can be seen in many of the target
areas:
Glasgow
City Centre - developments on the waterfront are bringing new
life to the Broomielaw and Tradeston, to the west of the city
centre.
Pacific Quay & SECC -
A new digital media campus is developing rapidly at Pacific
Quay, with the BBC's new Scottish HQ which opened in 2007.
Meanwhile, the SECC site is earmarked for expansion; plans are in
place to build a new 12,500 seater arena as part of the growing
complex. These areas will be enhanced with better transport
links.
Greater Govan &
Glasgow Harbour - a £1.2 billion investment programme is
transforming 130 acres of former dockland into a world-class
waterfront location.
Renfrew Riverside &
Scotstoun - the Braehead Shopping Complex is
already established as one of Scotland's top retail destinations.
The retail-led mixed use regeneration sets the standard for
successful renewal of a brownfield site. Commercial,
retail, leisure and residential developments are being
attracted into the area.
Clydebank and Erskine - The new Clydebank
College campus has opened on the former John Brown shipyard site
with office pavilions designed to attract businesses into the area.
The town centre's links to the riverfront are being improved and
housing projects are underway.
Old Kilpatrick to Dumbarton
- This pleasant riverfront district has considerable
potential for future development. In Dumbarton industrial land
around the harbour and on the edge of town is being transformed
with new commercial and residential developments.
