Description

This waterfront site is situated in the heart of the rapidly expanding International Financial Services District (IFSD), with major city centre offices nearby. It is suitable for development as a hotel.

Glasgow is an important urban tourism hub, now attracting 2.8m tourists and generating some £708m per annum. Key specialisms include short break and discretionary business tourism, and it is also a top destination for cultural and sporting events. Glasgow is one of the world’s leading conference destinations and has enjoyed sustained growth in the past decade, now being ranked 22nd in the world for delegate numbers.

IFSD is a £750m joint public/private sector project, creating a highly attractive environment for companies in the financial services sector. Established in 2001 with a 10 year target of attracting 20,000 jobs to the area, it is on course to deliver the jobs and 2m square feet of Grade A office accommodation by 2011.

 

Current status

The site has been cleared and is for sale. Glasgow City Council Planning Department has indicated that use as a hotel would be acceptable.
